Nursery

Fireman Fireman1The Nursery children have been busy learning about people who help us. The fire fighters from Isleworth and Heston Fire Station came to visit and talked to the children about their job. The children had to opportunity to use the fire hose pipe and to try on the fire fighters uniform. The children were really engaged and thoroughly enjoyed their learning.

Our topic this last half term is all about buildings. We went on a walk around Hounslow, had a visit from an architect and created a model village alongside building in every material available.

Year 4

DSC00528 DSC00532Earlier this term, Year 4 were very lucky to have a poet called Mona Arshi who came in to present and talk about her poetry to the children. As year 4 have been focusing on the pocket option bonus topic of ‘Local Legends’, this was a perfect opportunity for the children to meet and learn about Mona Arshi, who represents a positive role model from the local community by being an ex pupil of Alexandra Primary School. ’Small Hands’ (Mona’s first book) won the Forward Prize for best first collection in 2015. Mona was one of ten poets selected for the ‘Complete Works’, a national development programme funded by the Arts Council. Her poetry has also been published widely in magazines including Poetry Review, Magma, Rialto and the Sunday Times.

Mona read a few of her favourite poems to the children, followed by a questions and answers session. The children felt inspired by her writing especially as the setting for many of the poems is Hounslow.
